    One VPR-3 feature often overlooked is that if you were in Fast Forward and pressed Play the spooling would slow down straight to Play without stopping. You could also have the machine in Pause and poke your finger into either the supply or take up reel and 'jog' the tape with perfect picture output and no spilled tape.

    • @mikecumbo7531
      @mikecumbo7531 Місяць тому

      The VPR2B plus the Sony’s allowed you to jog a machine that way. That is how most sports tape ops did slo mo.

    "Never delivered any" is not correct. I had one, with the order placed at announcement. Through to 1995 (when we shuttered the facility) I had an Alex at the IBM ISEN Studio in Sydney Australia. We didn't push it very hard - mostly it was used for static lower thirds, but IIRC we did use the graduated fills, and animations on/off. There was an excruciatingly long period between ordering and installation, and in retrospect I'm sure much paddling below the surface event to deliver what we received. In fact, so much delay after ordering and that Ampex gave me a loner Chyron CG for us to use while we waited. The Alex definitely worked and, while it sometimes did odd things on extremely active graphics, it was stable enough to be used in live production and editing. No idea what happened to it when the facility was broken up. Based on the previous comments, many others were delivered globally. At least in the tens, and probably more. Then.. suddenly and without warning: no Ampex. Love the graphics at ua-cam.com/video/tz3ELaJKjcc/v-deo.html. That wasn't us!

    How many tv shows and movies of the 90s mastered on the D-2 video tape and how many are delivered to clients like networks such as CBS, ABC, NBC, Fox, then-UPN and the WB and cable networks like Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, MTV, the USA network and others?

    • @therubbermemory2652
